Scops Owl

I am off for a week to Galicia where I plan to do a a bit of birding. One of my (optimistic) target species is Scops Owl.

I am aware of how difficult it is to find one due to their camouflage, size and nocturnal habits. I also know where they have been recorded in the area.

I am planning to gather knowledge from locals when in the area with the objective to narrow down their location, and then visit the area at night hoping to pick up their very distinctive call. If I get that far I will determine next steps.

Does anybody have any experience finding them? Any other advice is appreciated.

    Thanks

Ok, I did a bit more research...signs to look for:

    1. Their call.
    2. When perching they like branches at 90 degrees from the trunk and they blend against the bark.
    3. In the evening/night they hang around street lamps to feed on insects.

    I will give it a go :)

Wonderful looking bird, feathers like a moth. I've only seen them online. Look forward to your pics. See link to Menorca conservation society: https://www.gobmenorca.com/mussols-alliberats-al-toro

I see there's a Scops Owl in Kilkenny (irishbirding.com). I'd love to see one. I hope he flies to Dublin.

I've heard them lots of times, but I've never, ever seen one. I hadn't realised they were so little! :)
