I have a B6 Passat which is acting the boll*x. It won't start so i jump it I'll drive 20km to work and start it maybe twice more that day I'll get home after another 20km fill up at pump and it won't start. I get maybe two or three starts after a jump start but it's lucky dip really. Sometimes it will struggle and just about start other times no problem at all.

I drove for 20 min today to try and charge battery got back turned it off went to start again no joy... Then i sat in the car for ten minutes with the headlights interior lights and radio on and not a bother off it?

Check battery connections first n foremost

If the alternator is gone shouldn't the battery light on the dash stay on?

Battery connections seem secure although i did disconnect them a while back to try fix the electronic parking brake. Should i just try tightening them up?

Yeah and forgot to mention no warning lights at all on the dash battery or otherwise when car is running.

Check that there's no corrosion or white alkaline substance on the battery terminals. If there is you can clean them with some sand paper or wire brush. The battery could be knackered but you can get it tested in most places.

Had nearly the exact same issues with my car last week (Ford Focus 1.8 TDCI)

Changed the battery and no issues since

Got the garage to keep an eye on it after changing the battery to see if there was an other issues alternator etc and there were none.

Any idea on the age of the battery, if it's about 5 years old replace it either way.

I drive diesel.Had badly hard starts on mornings, was thinking about battery, but mechanic said start from fuel. Was buying diesel from Tesco only, mechanic told go to Topaz.Starts on morning got far way better, after 3th tank of fuel, car completely changed, perfect start on mornings, plenty power, completely different car.Would not believe anybody diesel could be different, now I can feel it.Because have good mechanic, saved money on new battery also.

Thanks everyone for the replies, I've had the car two years now and god knows when it was replaced before me..

Anyone know the cheapest place to pick up a battery for a B6 Passat? Micks garage cheapest is 87e can't imagine I'd find cheaper than that?

That looks as good price, I thought it would be €100 or so.

I hope this is not injectors and fuel supply problem, because this will cost a lot more than battery.I would leave battery for last step.Find good mechanic.

Is it petrol or diesel? Diesel takes more power from the battery when starting.
Have you got a cheap multimeter to check battery voltage? Should be 13-14 volts, if its 11-12 its probably the battery, especially if its a diesel

Anywhere like Advance Pitstop or Fastfit will test your battery for free on the spot (about the only thing they're good for tbh!) so check that first. Does sound like the battery though.

Read the first post lad. This is an electric issue not fuel related. Your posts are just confusing.

OP. Have your battery tested and your alternator checked. Another option is the starter motor. Years of clutch dust can clog starters & give similar issues to the one your having.
