Howdy guys, looking for a bit of advice on buying my first car. Am learning to drive currently on an old Mitsubishi that is about to die any day. I contacted a dealer who has long supplied various family members with reliable cars. He told me he has the above model becoming available shortly. Does anybody have opinions on that particular car? It will need to last 3 years before it can be replaced and it will be used for commuting 25 km each way 5 days a week. Much obliged for any advice, I know absolutely nothing about motors ;)

They're a good car all round. Just make sure you can insure the HUGE! 1.5 engine :)

Thanks a mill, I'll be a named driver, my girlfriend will be the main driver of the car so should be ok from an insurance point of view. At least they are not notorious Junkers anyway;)

That'd be fronting your insurance which I would advise against as the policy might be void should an accident happen...

How would the insurance company ever prove that, except for checking this thread of course!! :-)

Let's hope you never have a claim made against you then and you don't find out the hard way. They may be a bit more resourceful than you're giving them credit for.

Who will be the registered owner of the car?

Who will be the registered owner of the car?

My girlfriend. To be clear, she would be the one making the commute, I'm only learning to drive currently, and only hold a provisional license so would not be covered insurance wise if alone in the car in any case. Much obliged for the advice anyway fellas.

As an aside we have been offered a 2006 Opel Astra, anybody have opinions on this car in terms of reliability etc?

No, no, no. Don't bother with an Astra

Think I'd prefer the Clio to be honest. Good solid little motor. 1.5 Diesel engine is very decent.
