    I'm interested in renovating part of a listed three story farmhouse into an apartment.

    Is this allowed if there are no changes to be made to the external of the building?

    Is planning permission required?

    Planning permission required for a lot of things to do with listed buildings that would not be required for a non-listed building.

    There is a system of listing your proposed upgrades to the council and asking them for a declaration as to whether or not planning is required for said work.

    It's worth doing right as if you have to reinstate old items at your own expense to original condition it can cost a fortune!

    Conversion to apartment requires planning, whether listed or not. May also be entering into the world of Fire certs and disabled access certs.

    Lodge a section 5 asking the council if what you want to do requires planning.
