Extraction / HSE or private?

Hi all. I took my 11 year old daughter to see an orthodontist a couple of weeks ago just for piece of mind more than anything however during the visit it transpires that she has an extra tooth (a supplemental UL2 lateral incisor) that she needs removing. Anyway, they gave me a letter which I took to the local HSE dentist and they have replied telling me that they cannot accede to this request as extractions will be carried out as part of an orthodontic treatment plan only for those children having their treatment provided in the HSE's regional orthodontic unit.
Am I wrong to pursue this with the HSE?, the long and short of it is she needs a tooth taken out (sooner rather than later), she is 11 and is not due back into the HSE for a routine check up until next year, or do I go private?

If your daughter didn't qualify for orthodontic treatment under the HSE, it's quite likely that any orthodontic treatment undertaken then comes under the remit of "cosmetic" treatment.
An extra/supplemental tooth is unlikely to cause swelling/infection/pain, & as such, there is no obvious direct *health* benefit in extracting it.

Not saying I agree with such an approach. Just that the HSE currently do not extract decayed baby teeth unless they cause pain; ergo they're unlikely to extract an intact & healthy adult tooth, even if it is surplus to requirements...
You'll probably have to attend a private dentist for the extraction.
