I am a college student heading into my final year and like many am hoping to obtain a training contract in a commercial firm. I'm using the Summer to fine tune my CV and work experience for the application process when it comes around, but am looking for advice as to what it is that firms look for and how best to market myself to them.

Could anyone offer any general advice for the application process, and advise as to what they look for in terms of grades and experience etc?

All the firms do internships in the summer.

    Apply on their website.

I applied to four or five of the top 10 and interviewed with one but didn't get it. I only had a 2.2 average at the time so didn't want to apply to too many. I now have a 2.1 and am trying to strengthen applications.

Apply to mid tier Firms also.

Four or five is literally noting. You should be applying to 20-30 at least.
