I just finished the sopranos, and that ending is going to annoy me forever now.

Did he die? Or was just his fear consuming him?

Yeah. He's dead. The writers confirmed it.

    And The Wire is better.

    I'm 99% sure
that Tony dies in the diner. What you saw was Tony's death through his own eyes as the bullet takes him out. That's the genius of the ending. Not to mention that the 6th season is full of symbols/quotes that Tony was going to die at the end.

That blog is brilliant, but it goes without saying, it will ruin the show if you haven't watched it yet.

    Did they?

I thought that David Chase was always either contradictory in his comments, or just said something ambiguous, or just avoided the question.

There's a good write up about it out there but the gist is that every time the bell rings the camera cuts to Tony's POV...the last time it does this as Meadow comes through the door the screen is black.

Edit: the link is posted above.

    Spoilers!!!!

And The Wire gets silly in the last season when David Simon spends the whole journalist storyline taken potshots at people he used to work with. Damn you Father Gus!

    I dunno, it feels like
If they were gonna kill him, they'd have done it differently

I don't think the OP referenced The Wire in comparison to The Sopranos. Have you mixed the threads up or something?

the shooter tried to get Tony, hit the camera instead

The ending is purposely ambiguous. David Chase has been quoted as saying Tony doesn't die, but at the end of the day it's up to the viewer to decide. I felt it was a bit of a cop out and a more clear cut ending akin to the ending of Boardwalk Empire would have been more appropriate, however the Sopranos is still one of the best things ever on TV regardless.

    Glazers Out!
