Drivers on the roads today

I have a 25k commute to work. When I hit the main road I get the speed up and set cruise for 100kmph.

This morning in particular cars were tearing by doing well over the limit. A seat aroza decides to overtake me going up a hill in the climbing lane and struggled to get by.

The spin home was pretty much the same. Doing the 100k and an English registered focus decides to drive up my a#$€ and tear by. Then a Renault Clio van decides to overtake me on a bend with oncoming traffic headed towards us. After failing to pull off the manoeuvre he decides the best course of action is to lay on the horn.

Is this the normal behaviour on the roads all over the country these days?

Is that the magical speed at which otherwise dickish motorists suddenly calm down and drive safely?

Iv'e lived and traveled the world over and imo Irish drivers are some of the best iv'e come across. It's a pleasure to drive here most of the time.

It's usually the indicated speed where you're actually doing 100kmph.

I've lived in London all my life but have often driven in Ireland and have to say that although Ireland does have some knöbheads on the roads, generally its a lot better than London. Indicators are just as rare in both places but there's considerably more patience in Ireland than London.
A major peeve of mine (especially when I'm on my motorbike) is cars that will change lanes just to get one car ahead which is very rare in Ireland but very prevalent in Britain.
I do plenty of mileage with cars, motorbikes and vans so I'm lucky to have different perspectives but generally driving in Ireland for me is enjoyable.

No it isn't our drivers, given the low density traffic, are awful. I'm just back from Brisbane and the drivers there were terrific...roads better...signage better and speed limits higher (no doubt because everyone pretty much obeyed them)

is it actually that specific? i had understood that car manufacturers are not allowed understate your speed on the speedo, but that they're allowed overstate by something like up to 10% - but tyre pressure and tyre variants mean that it's not as specific as 106, say?

Generally over-read by 5-10%. It might be 5% at one speed, 10% at another speed, but you can never be sure, unless you test your speedometer under controlled conditions at a variety of speeds.

I suspect cheaper models may be the ones with the greatest discrepancy, but thisis just speculation.

The percentage can indeed vary depending on the speed, but it should realistically aways be at least 4 km/h over the actual speed as that is the required testing scope.

Australia has a reputaton for a lot more enforcement than here, though.
If you act the maggot here you are unlikely to be proseceuted.

One thing that drives me bananas is the number of drivers who simply don't understand the simple concept of 'you stop at the white line at a red light'. I'd make a rough guess that at least 50% of drivers pull up more than half a car length past it, and regularly creep forward for no benefit. Especially irritating for cyclists in urban areas as it's regularly the bike box they're sitting in.
