When real Irish actors put on fake Irish accents for films!

I wonder if Gerry Adams saw that, would he raise one eyebrow or both? :)

63 and still (presumably) doing his own stunts; the man's a legend - even if the movie looks a bit naff. Wonder how many actual Northern Irish will be in the cast :D

    Jackie vs. Gerry, new trailer.

I also just noticed this is directed by Martin Campbell.

Bit of a grim role for Jackie. Most of his films are usually more lighthearted.

Could someone please shed some light on why a film starring Jackie Chan as a father who's daughter is killed by the IRA in London and who then pursues the "leader" of the IRA (played by Pierce Brosnan) has recieved almost no coverage either here or the UK?

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=33iuQu3UtjI

It has recieved a 7.3/10 on IMDB. It was released on 30th September in China and 12th October in US.

Why is there absolutely no mention of this anywhere in the media? My mind is boggled.

    PS:
I forgot to mention, it was directed by Martin Campbell, the best James Bond film director ever (Goldeneye, Casino Royale)

Looks like this is skipping the cinema and coming straight to Netflix here on December 15th.

Brosnan's accent is supposed to be awful though.

That's a big let down. I would have loved to have seen it in the cinema, regardless of Brosnan's awful accent.

There must be something in it that they thought may cause a ruckus in that trouble-making north of ours.

yeah the other half was really looking forward to seeing this in the cinema.

    ah well.

dont have netflixs so i guess ill wait for the DVD to see brosnons gerry adams impersonation.

    :D

I saw this in China a while ago, I thought Brosnon's accent was fine, better than if an American tried it. It is based on a book from the early 90s so the portrayal of the IRA is a little dated but the film its self is entertaining, it never gets too big or unbelievable which really works in its favor.

I watched this last night although Brosnan's accent was hit and miss it's not a bad turn as Gerry Adams.

Overall didn't think it was great. It's the UDI not the IRA whoever they are.

Clearly you missed the part where it was stated it's not coming to the cinema but I'll forgive your attempt at trying to look smart :)

Did pretty well in China and has probably made enough globally to justify a sequel!

watched this on Netflix, found it enjoyable. Both as an action film and as a political thriller.
I think it's closer to the conflicts and contradictions in northern politics than this review for the IT would like to acknowledge.

It seemed much closer than Donald Clarke's review suggested.

I was half expecting something like The Devil's Own or Patriot Games in terms of accuracy level but it was much more plausible than that (well, comparatively speaking).

much better movie than i was expecting. bit of a whos-who of irish actors. two good leads but chan was particularly impressive.

watched it last night. a fairly good film. maybe 7.5/10. Thought Chan was very good in it. Well worth a watch to pass away an evening. Also the accents were not all that bad !!

Saw it, though can't say how on Boards.ie without risking a ban. Thought it was good. It never goes too beyond the realms of possibility.

I'm really surprised it was never released in the cinema here. Did pretty well at the box office elsewhere. Was it politics?

    Surprisingly decent film!
Didn’t think much of Chan’s accent - floated between Derry, Limerick and Wexford at times. Hope he gets a better voice coach for any sequel.

Watched it over the weekend. Really enjoyed it, especially Pierce Brosnan's take on a certain political figure in Northern Ireland. Nice to see some shots of Belfast on film as well as Irish actors on screen. I'd highly recommend it.

The UDI name made no sense though. They were obviously supposed to be Republican but no matter how hard I tried I couldn't think why Republicans would use that. Sounds more loyalist than anything.

Poor oul Michael McElhatton is making a habit of signing up for these bit roles. :pac: Basically just stood there silently for the entire film. But still, better than his King Arthur and JL roles.

I enjoyed it anyway. Chan and Brosnan were very good and not typically a fan of either.

I also saw it on 'Netflix' last night. I thought it was excellent, especially the irish supporting cast. Cliff Martinez did a really good job with the music too. It was definitely cinema worthy.

Don't ask me how I know, but there were certain sensitive lines in the chinese version that were omitted from the english version. So maybe the quiet release was due to the shenanigans up north.

Watched it, Brosnans northern accent is gas, I love the term Authentic IRA, probably the only term they could use after Real IRA, Continuity IRA, I Can't Believe It's Not The IRA etc etc. Chans Rambo style gunshot fix with a knife brought me back to the 80's :D

Thought it was a decent film none the less, good to see Michael McElhatton back on screen, would love another series of Paths To Freedom...
