Pardon my stupidity, but is there a specific name for the thing on the side of watches, that is used to wind the watch, or, is it just called a winder?

    Thanks :)

The crown is the round thing at 3 O'clock.

So, its not called a winder, but a crown, is that right?

Yes, the crown is used to wind the watch and adjust the time.

Thanks very much. I always just called it a winder, but wondered what it was really called.

Thanks for clearing that up for me.

FWIW a "watch winder" is actually a device that you place your automatic watch on when not wearing it so that it keeps powered and you don't need to reset the time the next time you wear it.
No biggie for a regular automatic but I remember my aunt who used work in Cartier explain that if some of the more complicated pieces lost power they needed to be sent back to the factory to be reset.
