VW Sirocco, any known issues to watch out for?

looking at 2010-12 sirocco's, in the past had really bad experience with golfs mark4 -burning oil, lock issues, electrical issues, parts breaking off and ton of other problems at the time.

So question did vw improve over the years, since looking at 1.4l engine 120bhp but dropping 10k+ is a good chunk of cash and wouldn't be able to afford to risk it if its riddled with issues like past ones specially when it comes to engine, electricals.

Any input on common issues and what to watch out for appreciated. If someone owns one or knows a bit about em.

They are fairly robust aside from they are fond of timing chains which are around €1k to put right, other than that there isn't too much that gives trouble. A lot are fitted with factory 17 and 18" wheels which make tyres a little pricey but you can't blame the car on that.

does the chain need to be replaced every x amount of miles, due to stretching ?
since in the past had toyotas that would not even mention chain change reliability wise .

I don't think you'd have very much to be concerned about. They're a MK6 (or arguably a MK5) Golf in a nicer dress, so any issues that apply to the Golf would generally apply to the Scirocco. The MK5/MK6 Golf have generally been a very reliable car.

They are prone to them and they can be a bit unpredictable in their appetite for them.

I'd budget €1k and have it aside as the chances are high you will be calling on it.

Other that that, they are pretty good. As above, most of it is a mk5 Golf with a squashed roof.
