    Hi all,

Looking at investing in a pair of good sunglasses for travelling.

Am looking at the Rayban Aviator's (I have 20% off student discount)

Are these a good pair ? or is there others that would be better? Obviously looking at best comfort and of course protection.

I would pop into Optica on Dawson street in Dublin. They have the most amazing selection of designer sunglasses, possibly the best in the country?

Raybans have become such a fad that it's more common to have a pair than not to have a pair. They're a bit dull in that sense.

If you are buying for eye protection, then I recommend to buy a pair with polarized lens. These reduce glare (e.g. reflected light off water or wet surfaces) significantly and block UV light.

If you're looking at Ray Bans in particular, the pairs with polarised lenses will have a little "P" next to the RayBan logo. See example below. Other manufacturers will also have polarized lenses available too.

Yes will definitely be getting a polarized pair.

Are Ray Bans actually decent or is it just another case of it being a big brand name with meh quality?

IMO they are good quality and have a long established reputation as a manufacturer of glasses and sunglasses. To be fair, I'm sure there are equally good other brands out there too

I have a pair of Ray Ban Aviators that I never wear because of the way they sit - they are too far out from my eyes so light gets in around them, if that makes sense? So I still find myself squinting when I have them on.

Just make you sure you try on lots of styles - Aviator shape obviously just doesnt suit me but cant fault the quality of Ray Bans.

Most people tend to have cheap knock-offs or imitations of Rayban Aviators in my opinion.

As far as the uv protection goes glasses with CE mark will have it regardless of price. But they also have to fit you well. Polarized lenses are definitely preferable if you are driving a lot. Most of the branded high end sunglasses are made by Luxottica which it so there is very little difference in quality.

If you wear prescription glasses I would pick the frame you like and get prescription polarized lenses but otherwise just get something that suits you best. Aviator's don't suit me but I had Ray Ban sunglasses before and I currently wear Ray Ban prescription glasses. They are grand but no better than any other sunglasses in 50+ Euro bracket. As for UV protection you could get glasses with CE mark in Penny's.

Anyone know where I can get my paws on some replica/fake Ray Bans?

Just a note - please do not use Boards to help you purchase fake/counterfeit goods.
