Volkswagen Golf 1.2l

    Hi

I am looking to move on from a 2001 1.4litre Volkswagen Golf. Looking into golfs in the 2011-2013 range. I wouldn't drive enough really for a diesel. So looking at petrols, the majority available look to be 1.2litre 85bph.

I was wondering, has anyone driven these, and what are they like for power? I do the odd bit of motorway driving, so was wondering would they struggle on the motorway?

Any tips on what version of Golf around then to look out for would be great as well.

From what you say, the 1.2 TSI would suit your needs well.
Mine is 2012. and replace the 06 1.4.
Here wasn't much choice back then. Dealers weren't stocking petrol models, Diesel was the only game in town.
Well my wife wasn't doing mileage to justify diesel, and am glad we persisted.
Trouble free, it's not a Ferrari, but its a perfect replacement for the earlier model, and that bit more economical.
    Hope this is helpful

Yeah, they are decent. By no means powerful but will provably feel a bit more competent to drive than your old 1.4.

Biggest problem is they suffer from timing chain trouble which can be somewhat unpredictable. I'd be looking for one with a full service history but even at that it's a gamble.

I'd nearly factor a chain into the purchase price, other than that they are actually a pretty solid car.
