Best place to book a seat on Irish Rail?

    I'm travelling to Galway in 1 and a half weeks and would I'm taking the rail. Last time, I had some incident with reserved seats bought at the station not being 'reserved' so this time I've decided to book online.

    I see there are 5 coaches to sit in. I'm not sure exactly where it would be most preferable to sit. Would you give guys give any advice?

    You cant reserve a seat at a station only by booking online or over the phone. No real difference in any of the carriages, when booking online it will assign you a seat in a certain carriage.

    What is important to you?

    You should be able to choose between:
    * Forward / rear facing seats.
    * Paired seat or groups of 4 seats around a table.
    * At least one carriage should have a wheelchair accessible toilet, the other will have a toilet with baby changing table.
    * At least one carriage should have space for bicycles.

    There should be a dining car.

    The read of the train in Dublin (nearest the entrance to the platform) will be the rear of the train in Galway. I don't know the current layout of Galway station, you may need to exit the platform at the front of the train.

    Most trains between Dublin and Galway have a catering trolley rather than a buffet counter.

    There certainly isn't a "dining car"!!

    Just pick any seat and move to a different one if it doesn't suit and if it's not busy.

    Does anyone know why coach D on the Enterprise is the only one in standard class you can reserve now?

    It frees up the other coaches for non bookings.

    I get the logic of having a bookings only coach, I'm just confused as to why they've TERMINATED booking ability for all the other coaches in standard, it's not that big a problem I just wonder what the logic was.
