FTA best option.

I recently got a sky q box and the installer changed my lnb to a twin lnb(I had a quad installed on old dish). I had 2 cables to kitchen for an old sky box using FTA and 2 to sitting room for my old system.

Sky q box installed in sitting room which is fine but now I have nothing connected in kitchen.

What's my best option for FTA? Can I split 1 of the 2 satellite cables from sky dish and split it between the kitchen and sitting room?

My tv in kitchen is not saorview ready and i obviously would need a saorview box or dongle.

    Any suggestions or ideas?

Why didnt this installer install an Hybrid LNB. He saw that you had more than 2 cables on the previous dish. Get on to Sky or Sierra or where ever this lad came from and get him back to finish the job.

This is hardly a new business strategy by Sky ? ie to make people stick with Sky and not have the FTA fallaback ?

Get onto Sky over in their Talk to forum http://www.boards.ie/ttforum/1598

SkyQ standard LNBs are a different technology to the standard legacy LNB used previously, they cannot be split or used with a non-SkyQ receiver.

They have a 6 output Hybrid LNB for these situations, they can be used with both SkyQ and legacy satellite receivers but won't install them unless asked to and even then can be reluctant to do so. Be firm with them to restore your original setup.

That's some lad who doesn't give a s**t about his job. Get onto sky if it was them who installed the lnb and tell them you want them back out to rectify it this week.

Many thanks for all the feedback. I asked the installer a couple of times could he not install a quad lnb and his reply was no.

I will defo get onto sky on boards here and get them to come back to sort my issue.

Strictly correct but didn't go the extra step and tell you about the hybrid LNB.

I didn't know about the hybrid lnb I should have done a little more research.

No ....... he should have told you and supplied it.

I would threaten Sky to have them rip the lot out and return your old system for what has been done.

    It is a disgrace!

Got this sorted. Engineer coming out this week to fit hybrid lnb at no extra cost.

Very happy with the outcome and settled very quickly too.

Craig from sky reps called and made it happen.

Thanks to those who pointed me in the right direction
