This is a real how long is a piece of string question but here goes....

I am viewing a 4 bed 2,200 sq ft dormer bungalow today. 3 doubles downstairs with 1 upstairs. There is also a living area upstairs.

The house is no more than 15 years old but unfortunately the only heating system is a stove and electric storage heating. No rads in the house, I'll assume for now that the house isn't plumbed for rads either.

What would be the best type of system to install and what kind of figure would I need to be preparing for (ballpark)?

It depends on the structure of the house and what level of concealment you want and what energy source you pick: Oil, gas,lpg,A2W,GSHP, rural or urban setting etc.
So concrete floors downstairs vs timber and so on.
However the first step should be try and reduce the energy demand rather than just dive in and get a 125,000 BTU oil fired system running at 85 degrees, with big d/p rads, think about airtightness and then insulation
