Been there on a trip up from Portugal. It's an old naval/port city which has undergone a renaissance. I got great hotel rooms at an NH (higher end Spanish chain) for sub €100. Just be flexible and search around.

Looks an interesting area, the region is called Galicia, there was a documentary on Spain on Channel 5 recently and the area featured, this might be of interest...

We went in April for a couple of days. Stayed at the edge of the old town. We downloaded a walking tour (walked up to the old fort - its quite a climb do it before it gets too hot) and did that one day then went out to Islas Cies on the Saturday. We bought our ferry ticket online for that trip.

In the evenings we wandered around the old town having a beer and some tapas. There was a football match happening on the Sunday and the atmosphere in the old town on Saturday night was mental, really good and everyone in high spirits.

In the bars a small beer was about €1.40 and a glass of local wine was about €3/4

It was great for a short weekend trip. We got a taxi from the airport into town and was about €20.
