I'm interested to see how people would group premier league teams for the upcoming season.

Take 3 groups and place each team into one group.

    Group 1:
    Chelsea
    ect

    Group 2:
    Everton
    ect

    Group 3:
    Huddersfield
    ect

    Team List:

    Arsenal
    Bournemouth
    Brighton
    Burnley
    Chelsea
    Crystal Palace
    Everton
    Huddersfield
    Leicester
    Liverpool
    Man City
    Man Utd
    Newcastle
    Southampton
    Stoke
    Swansea
    Tottenham
    Watford
    West Brom
    West Ham

How many groups do you think would be needed to gain a close enough grouping of similar teams in the Premier League. Fewer the better for analysis but there would need to be a minimum number of groups for it to be useful.

Ideally you would have 4 groups IMO but when you look at Group 2, it's actually very difficult to separate those teams

Group 1 (Champions to European spots)
    Arsenal
    Chelsea
    Liverpool
    Manchester City
    Manchester Utd
    Tottenham

Group 2 (Perennial mid-table teams, unlikely to get relegated)
Everton (7th-11th-11th-5th in last 4 seasons, most recent stated 1st)
    Southampton (8-6-7-8)
    Bournemouth (9-16-n/a-n/a)
    West Brom (10-14-13-17)
    West Ham (11-7-12-13)
    Leicester (12-1-14-n/a)
    Stoke (13-9-9-9)
    Palace (14-15-10-11)
    Swansea (15-12-8-12)

    Group 3 (the rest)
    Burnley
    Watford
    Newcastle (potential Group 2)
    Brighton
    Huddersfield

    What's your thinking anyway?

Still experimenting with various combinations from a pricing model I'm working on

Its not simply a case of grouping teams that finish 8-12 every season for example. I have to balance overall standard with team tactics also to get 'similar teams'.
