Acrylic number plates

    Hey guys

As a matter of interest, does anyone know if main dealers tend to make their own acrylic number plates and if so how long it takes to make a set?

The reason I ask is that I'm picking up a 172 plate next Saturday and I'm on a bit of tight schedule that day. So I was hoping to pick it up before lunch.

I'd assume that'd be no problem. I'm waiting on a call back from the dealer on it.

Takes a few minutes to make them. They just print the reflective and stick it to the inside of the acrylic plate.

    Thanks Colm.

As an aside, on a busy day like July first, how long does it typically take to get a reg number back from revenue? I would thought it required no human intervention on the revenue side and it gave you back a reg number once you submitted the details of the car, owner, etc

It's years since I did it, but I remember even on the first of a regular month you might be few hours. Usually it's pretty quick (matter of minutes) but really the garage can only do so many handovers in one day.

Amazing that the load can't be spread over a few days or weeks in the run up e.g. Open July 1st registrations on June 1st etc. Unless I assume the game is to try get a low number?

Amazing that people are also so obsessed with having a 172 reg versus getting a 171 reg and the car a few weeks earlier...

Well actually, its nothing to do with the plate really. If it had arrived in mid-may like it should have I would have taken it then but it didn't. It arrived last week so we said, **** it we'll just wait for the new plate for the sake of it. Now I've been called away unexpectedly for work, leaving July 1st and my wife could do with the car but as it is in my name, I need to be there.

So it means we may have to wait another month for something we've already waited on for several months.
