Back pain - good doctor?

2 years ago I seriously injured my back.
I suffered loss of mobility and excruciating pain and spent over a year bed bound.
I am more mobile now but I live in constant pain and my movement is still effected.
I have visited a raft of consultants but none have been able to alleviate my pain, beyond filling me with pain medication and muscle relaxants which only work to a limited extent.

I really feel as if I've been passed from pillar to post with no one willing to investigate the source of my symptoms.
2 years after the incident I have yet to receive a definitive diagnosis. Some medical professionals have shrugged their shoulders and told me they have never seen my symptoms before.

I am also unsure if my case falls under the remit of neurological, muscoskeletal or other. As it's very difficult to know without a diagnosis.

The haphazard nature of my care was highlighted to me recently when I was informed (despite having numerous scan) that I have never had a full back scan. This stunned me as it seems like one of the first things that should have been done.

Has anyone had a similar expeirence as regards back pain?
Any recommendations of good consultants (either nationally or internationally)?
Any other useful contributions would be welcome.

*Please no medical advice. I'm not looking for that.*

Yes a mri of your back may reveal a diagnosis. Wirth paying for privately.

Out if interest....are you taking a compensation case?

    Hi op
you can get a private scan for 400/600 euro that will put that to rest, don't be afraid to respectfully demand you get it done before you go any further.

there is no one doctor that I'm aware of who is a back specialist, there are so many things that can be wrong, unless you get full back scan your only going to go around in circles and get more anxious and more pain.

I have a long history of lumbar spine problems and following microdisketomies/decompressions etc, I had a spinal fusion done a year ago with Michael Kelleher in Santry Sports clinic and life is great now.

As previous posters have said, a good MRI is the key and in my case my surgeon wanted it done before the first appointment.
