I recently got my 2016 farm accounts done by my accountant.I a concerned that I have been well overcharged for these.I was charged 500 + vat for basic accounts with the following figures Income (15480) Gross Profit (12283) expenses 10859) and net profit of (1424). He also charged me 150 + vat for a vat 58 return .

Can anybody tell me does this sound right or was I overcharged

Also any ideas of what other accountants charge would be much appreciated

I am sure the figures influence the amount charged - but I would suspect the more time spent preparing the accounts would be more of a factor.

So how did you provide your accounts to the accountant?

Excel with all items listed out, or a shoebox full of receipts?

In terms of price, hard to say, 500+VAT is maybe a small bit on dear side, but not that much (to me anyways)
The 150+VAT does sound dear, as this is something you could easily do yourself and then just include in your accounts for the accountant at year end. That's what I do anyways...

I know of a crowd and they charge a flat fee to all farmers weather to u have 50 or 500 cattle .

If your the small man you might complain but at least you know how much it cost before they begin and not wait for a bill to see how many hours they did

I pay something similar to that as well for my accounts, at a similar sort of scale of business from looking at your figures..

When you say a flat 500 is that including vat or excluding vat
