Seems to be a lot of knowledgeable guys here in the maritime industry.
I am hoping to go to NMCI in September.
Obviously long term careers for western officers on bulkers/container (possible exception Maersk) are pretty much zero.
If sponsored by one of the oil majors or cruise companies that sponsor students after 1st year in NMCI is there a good chance of employment with the sponsoring company when finished the Orals??
The few people I know in the industry are very negative about the industry and told me I`m mad to contemplate it.
I`m in my late 20s don't want kids/wife I have a lot of inshore sea experience . The lifestyle (working a few months on/off is something I love having done so for a good few years abroad).

There will always be demand for northern European officers, it's getting less and less admittedly, but there are still opportunities. Get your sea time in as quickly as possible and get your mates and masters tickets. Then a whole range of opportunities will be available shoreside. Some interesting stuff in the offshore industry with high tech ships etc.

Get in, get experience and tickets, and get out again by 40.
