Firewood: drying

    Hi,
I have cut down the tree in the photo into logs and I want to dry it for fire wood to burn in a stove.
Can you help identify the type of tree and advide how best to dry it? The logs are mostly 1ft long or shorter.
I could split them now with an axe or let them season for a while.
I have shed space or was considering buying a plastic storage bunker.
    Any advice much appreciated!
    Murray

    Thanks ganmo.
Is storing wood outside going to attract rodents?
I have a small garden and young kids.

That looks like a cherry tree to me. By the time you take the twiggy crown off you wont have much logs to worry about stacking. They won't be any more attractive to rodents than hedging.

As Wearb suggests you're not going to get a lot of firewood out of that tree, but if you planned on buying more firewood you might need something like this wood store I built a few months ago....
