hi, hoping for some help/info from regular Croke park goers. family visitors from London coming to Dublin for annual holiday, they have a young fellow who loves going to big matches. In London he's a season ticket holder (with his dad) at Brentford and frequently travels to away games. He is registered blind, completely blind in one eye but partial vision in the other, last time over I brought him to Semple Stadium for the Munster hurling final, despite the result he loved the day. This year thinking of bringing him to see the Dublin game this Sunday.
I got onto Croke Park, they recommended the Davin Stand section 318, unfortunately the disabled section is only for those in wheelchairs with one guest.
In the UK I think they are upon to all who have a disability card. Anyway there'd be one adult and two children so disability area ruled out anyway.
Would any regular match goer have an opinion on what stand or area would most likely suit his needs? any anecdotal opinions welcome.

A completely uneducated opinion here but surely the Davin would be a terrible spot for someone with sight issues. You'd imagine half way up the hogan or cussack not for from the pitch would be the best place as you'd be closer to every part of the pitch. Easy to access too. That said even the high tiers in croker are easy to get to.

There's a fella with severe visual impairment who goes to Croke Park quite regularly.

He's from Sligo I think. Marty Duffy.

(Being serious, the davin would be terrible. Has to be one of the long stands or have you considered the Hill cause it's Dublin? Be a good experience for him if he enjoyed Semple).

Yeah I would have said the Davin would be the last place to go.

This is what I would have thought as well.

Why would she recommend the Davin Stand?

It's an awful view even for spectators without impaired vision.

Middle of the Hogan / Cusack Stand, about 20 rows back would be the ideal seat. But again them tickets are sold out I take it. Next best would be the upper tier around the same place. You'd want to be an equal enough distance from bot goals and at some height.

I'm assuming that 318 is the disabled section and it's policy to recommend it for anyone with any disability.

Premium level in the Davin is the best place to watch a match from by a mile IMO.

Contact croke park and ask them to help you getting good seats for the match would be my advice.
They can be very helpful if you explain the situation . Some very good and helpful people working there who will at least point you in the right direction.

thanks for all the comments and tips. we ended up in the Davin stand and had a great time. Plenty of 2nd half goal action, the lad v impressed by the stadium and the actual game. Now supports Dublin in the football (once he keeps Waterford in the hurling I can't complain). Thanks again to all.
