New estate broadband availability

I moved into a new estate in a town due to get FTTH services this Autumn (allegedly). There is fttc in multiple locations in the town but our estate does not have any connections and I can only get basic broadband (no virgin either at the moment, but allegedly it's coming but I'm not holding my breath). One of the blue lines on the rollout map goes past the entrance to our estate.

From emailing openeir they have said that based on my eircode we are not covered in the 300k premises in the nbp.

Do new estates beside others that were included at the time of identifying premises for the FTTH rollout ever get added? Is there anything that can be done about this? The builders basically lied to us saying that fttc connection was available in the estate and stupidly I took them at their word.

Am I goosed and stuck until such time as virgin may do something or is there a way to try and get our estate of just under 100 houses added? I'd prefer not to have to knock on everyone's door to ask them to sign a letter that may not actually have any end result, but if it's the only option to try to get anything done I might well do that.

    Any help welcomed, thanks.

The FTTH list is already very very long. It might be worth pushing for FTTC which will take 50x less man hours to commission *IF* you have a suitable CCP serving the estate.

100 dwellings with no HFC network available should see high uptake so would probably pay off the MSAN + expenses within an acceptable timeframe.

Have a look for a green street cab with eircom manhole covers directly in front of it.

What does the NBP map indicate for your new estate, is it in the dark blue area for future FTTC rollout - http://www.dccae.gov.ie/en-ie/communications/topics/Broadband/national-broadband-plan/high-speed-broadband-map/Pages/Interactive-Map.aspx

Is there a new cabinet planned for the estate that might provide FTTC in future, have a look at the NGA Fibre Broadband Network map and tick the "all" box to the right hand side. A planned cab will have a blue marker in your area.

No new planned cabinet, estate not on the map and where it is isn't covered by dark blue circles, although it is right beside areas that are covered.

The builder said that he took 100 connection pairs (or something like that) from a different cabinet to cover the estate, but no fibre available for us.

It's Ashbourne BTW, so not exactly the middle of nowhere, but it may as well be.

Either you're too far from the cab for FTTC or there isn't sufficient VDSL ports available at the cabinet for the 100 new lines or they're simply going to leave it to the NBP to rollout the necessary infrastructure.

Has anyone actually had a line installed? You won't prequalify until openeir connect a metallic path (cable) which to test.

I'm in the same boat , new estate in a town covered with fibre from all providers, so I couldn't see them coming to back to upgrade us.

Made a thread in the Eir forum and was told we ain't served by a cabinet , there is nothing we can do to get a cabinet and they are under no obligation to provide fibre to us and if it ever becomes available they will let us know.

So my only hope for some fast broadband now is siro, we are one of the 50 towns, hopefully they connect us.

Lots of people have lines installed, including me. I was told initially that I'm connected to a cabinet with fibre but no connections available but I've been told multiple times since that this is incorrect.

Would have to surmise then that the developer brought it to the nearest main cable and not to an existing CCP. Unfortunately the nuances of xDSL is far above their level (blighters can't even manage open access ducts).

Ya, misplaced faith in builders coupled with knowing the rest of the areas around us were connected lulled me into a false sense of security about this. If there is nothing that can be done to try and get a better connection I'm going to have to live with my current connection. It's not the worst (about 8mb down, only .5mb up) but it's far from what I wanted and was used to in my old place.

Say you do have such a cab in your estate but you aren't connected to it (you are connected to the exchange) how do you convince Eir to connect you to the cab?

BT call that network rearrangement. OpenEir dont do it (except if you happen to get a very helpful tech).
