    Hi all,

I have installed a private well about 10 yrs, 1 problem I have is that occasionally the pressure on the pump builds up and goes really high and bursts the pipes at fittings or creates leaks which causes a lot of problems(3 times over 10 yrs), the plumbing/electrical company who installed the pump says there is nothing that can be done about this, surely some type of circuit breaker or sensor could be fitted so that once the pressure goes over a certain level the pump cuts out and alerts you to a problem with the pump,

Any ideas as I'm not from a plumbing/ electrical backround

You certainly haven't asked the right plumber. This is most likely a very common problem in some areas. It is either a faulty pressure switch or its port blocked.

thanks for reply, pressure switch has been replaced and I think there are problems with sediment in this area, so what can be done to prevent this?

Relocate the pressure switch after a filter.

The plumbing/electrical company should have fitted a pressure relief valve. If its not fitted there should be one fitted. This protects the pipework and pressure vessel,if you dont have a pressure relief valve you probably dont have a filter fitted either.I would think that the sediment is blocking the inlet port of the pressure switch
