Where do you go to to get a diagnosis for Oppositional Defiant Disorder?
    Apart from going private.

1st port of call GP or public health nurse. They can refer you to the local service that can diagnose. However be prepared for a long wait.

What is the Assessment of Needs officer.? Which is better to go through the public health nurse, your GP or the Assessment officer? Or do you end up in the same place no matter what you do?

An Assessment of Needs officer will do up a report saying what intervention your child needs ie therapy, assessment etc. This can be a good starting point and gives you a jumping block to start from. It is probably the easiest place to start. It gets you into the system.

i didn't get an aon - we were referred via public health nurse (our gp thought our little lad was just a slow developer - he has autism ) to therapy but had a very long delay in getting a diagnosis. The hse don't like diagnosing very young children.
