Almost certainly Phil's idea. When you're trying everything to get back into the winners circle you'll eventually get around to your caddie. Don't see it making much difference to him either way. Might start taking more risks.....is that possible?

Anyone think Bones may end up with Fowler?

Bones had double knee replacement at the start of the year so maybe he can't handle the walking anymore.

Was thinking the same but Phil's statement mentions about the "next player to work with him (Bones)"

Just trying to deflect I'd say. I dunno but it has undertones of something a lot more sinister.

Agree.Bones apparently was scouting the course on Thursday in case Mickelson made it so it seems like a very quick turnaround from that to this.

Could be no more than a difference of opinion on whether Mickelson should play the US Open or not. Given the timing and the above, it seems the most likely explanation. A guy with 25 years experience on Mickelson's bag may have expressed a very strong opinion and Mickelson may have felt he'd crossed a line. Like all divorces, it's the little things... :)

Or maybe there's nothing in it and they felt time for a change.. Considering they both released good statements and joked about the famous "veto"

After all they have been working together for 25 years I'm sure they have had their fair share of ups and downs!

It's interesting that Phil's statement refers to Bones'. Clearly Bones' was issued first and was sent to Phil before both being released at the same time.

If anything, that seems to indicate a mutual decision. Certainly doesn't appear to have been any acrimonious falling out involved. I'm not sure what benefit it's going to have for Phil's game. It won't stop him spraying the rough with tee shots anyway. ;)

I think Bones gets a bit too "involved" for JP to have any worries.
Wouldn't think Bones will have any trouble picking up a good bag though, his experience has go to be worth a shot or two per tournament for the right player.

Probably nothing to do with the decision but I remember commenting to my dad about how shook he looked when he was walking around erin hills the last day.
