Russia Tourist Visa - biometrics not working on passport

as the thread titles says, I've a passport with about 2 yrs left on it, and the biometrics page doesn't work anymore, my guess is that its RFID chip got damaged. If I apply for a Russian tourist visa, will the broken biometrics be an issue?
Adding the time it'll take for a new passport, and then the Russian processing time, I'm running short on time before the potential trip, and I'm sure a brand new passport would raise questions with the Russians.

Any ideas if they'd notice the non working biometrics during Visa issuing?
