What are peoples views on having some kind of a box at the wedding for people to put the cards in? The future hubby wants to go with the traditional give it to the groomsmen and thinks the box isn't safe. I personally wouldnt trust the groomsmen not to leave the card's down somewhere and forget about them!

At a recent Wedding there was one between the dining room and bar. Thought it a great idea.

Just make sure that it is well anchored down and that you appointment someone to empty it regularly.

    So, the best man?

Lads and ladies, if you are staying in a hotel, the only place to store anything is in a safety deposit box.

They'll have one either in your room, or behind reception.

This is what we did when I got married to a Danish girl in Denmark, Have a table in the reception room for presents, guests love to go up and see what has been given, Cards / envelopes/cash can also be left there. A good tip is those that give Cash write the amount on the card so you can remember later who and how much its from.of course the best man could look after the presents table and take the cash for safety if necessary and display the cards. Enjoy your wedding day

I don't think opening the cards would look well in Ireland, people might think you're trying to pay the hotel with gifts, which is the only reason I've heard it done before!

(One was the infamous cake mixer wedding and another was my friend who's bank wouldn't allow them to pay the full balance on the night on their card, so they had to use the cash gifts :o she was mortified as they had the money just couldn't get to it)

To be honest I would have a trusted friend or relative. The best man has speeches and is sittong at the top table. Might be easier for someone else to pop in and out and lock thrm away.

At my wedding, people gave them to the best man and also the parents - the parents were given fancy rooms as part of the package and they had a big wardrobe area with a safe, so presents were put up there (best man had a key to the room). In my experience though, the vast majority of people gave presents either before the day, or else as they were leaving on the day after.
