I have just received a 2.2 honours law degree but i am thinking of getting it reviewed, my average is 57.5, my worst exam turned out to be best mark, i am currently filling out the form to review two subjects, I am asked to add anything i want to say by writing on the back of the form, I am only looking for them to bring my average up to give me the 2.1, its only 2.50 more to get me there. I worked really hard this year but had 3 deaths in a short time which really took the focus off. I am a mature student with life experience and work experience behind me. I took the degree after losing my job of 16 years I really want this. How should I ask for this if they cant find the extra in a recheck of my work ??

Firstly, my condolences, it sounds like you have had a lot to deal with whilst also (successfully) managing an undergraduate degree. Emphasis on successfully, as at the end of the day you passed your degree with a 2nd class honours grade, and that warrants pride. Congratulations.

In my opinion, those reassessing your exams will not easily find enough marks to bring your total average up by 2.5%, if I'm reading you right. If the final year cumulative total is approximately 1500 marks for example, that means they would need to find an additional 37.5 marks in the exams that you have presented. It is worth trying, but no guarantees. It is not my opinion that personal circumstances will factor in to alteration of grades--you will need to discuss this with someone senior in your department.

I would suggest that you consider looking into postgraduate study (assuming that it is an undergrad that you have), even if you start with a H. Dip or P. Dip, it will be a great opportunity to specialise and another opportunity to achieve a higher grade. I know of at least one person who got a 3rd class degree, went on to do masters (by conversion), and went on to have a successful career in their field.

Thank you so much for your kind words and words of wisdom. Most of my year got a 2.1 which i had hope to achieve. One or two have turned their nose at my 2.2, once i realised i didnt get the 2.1 i pulled myself up and said well i got myself an honours law degree but now im not feeling elated as i was in the beginning to have achieved an honours law degree. Yes it was undergraduate.....i have been looking at further study but the criteria is 2.1 for masters perhaps H.Dip is the way forward ???

I am also nervous that my grade may drop if i proceed with a recheck........i take your points about finding additional marks to make it up

Depends on the university/course/what you put into your application. I got into an MA course with my 2.2 so you shouldn't give up hope. You might be able to progress from a HDip to an MA in the same university so there are options.
