Smell from en suite toilet

    Hi folks

    There is a really bad smell coming from the en suite in our bedroom. It started a while back so we stopped using that toilet altogether .

    The toilet doesn't flush but we have not used it since we moved in . I was using it only for showers but don't anymore . We tried pouring drain cleaner and were using tons of candles to mask the odour but today with the nice weather the place is stinking . It's a sulphur smell and we can't even sleep in the room tonight

    Any tips on what we should do ?

    Plumber or drainage guys ?

    Any help appreciated

    Pour a bucket of water into the toilet as your toilet has lost its trap with some water evaporating out of it. Leaving that sewer smell come into your room. also do the same to the shower and basin. Open windows in room for the day tomorrow and the smell will be gone tomorrow night I would be sure

    Make sure to do this every week in every unused toilet, shower or sink


    U bend was sucked dry once in our bath when toilet was backing up and the room filled with insects that had blown/crawled in from the sewer pipes and septic tank

    If the above suggestions don't work gets a plumber to have a look at it. The multiwick might need to be re fit or replaced.
    Don't ignore it.

    I had a problem with downstairs bathroom smell, couldnt figure out where it was coming from.

    The sink doesnt have a u bend, it has a device that opens to let water out and closes afterwards, so i looked down plughole with torch and could see it wasnt closing 100%, it was a bit dirty, so i just put some foamer drain cleaner down, left for few hrs, then flushed out with hot water, and its been fine since, no smells.

    Because valve wasnt closing it was allowing sewer fumes into room
