Terrorist Attacks on Mali resort popular with Westerners

A tourist resort in Mali popular with Westerners is under attack by gunmen, a spokesman at the security ministry has told Reuters.
Nearby residents reported hearing shots fired at the luxury destination.
The spokesman said the attack was ongoing at Le Campement resort in Dougourakoro, to the east of the capital Bamako.
Malian troops and soldiers from France's Bakhane counter-terrorist force are at the site.
There was no information immediately available on casualties, however, one eyewitness said he believed there was several injuries and deaths.

Just a heads-up to any Irish tourists in Mali. Is this Le Campement resort popular with Irish holidaymakers? Have any of ye heard of it?

Watched a doc on operation serval recently.
Intetesting stuff, and it seems like the islamic terror world really took Frances victory to heart.
Seems to have seriously pissed on their plans.

The reason I asked if Irish holidaymakers visit this resort is because they did say that this Le Campement place was popular with westerners.

    An update:

A UN official said suspected jihadists took hostages at Le Campement Kangaba in Dougourakoro, adding there were casualties reported.

Residents living near the resort said shots were fired while smoke could be seen in the air.

One eyewitness said that the situation was out of control.

From dept of foreign affairs: "don't fookin go there. If you're there, get the f out."

But sure if you listened to them you'd never go anywhere. I hear the beaches are lovely this time of year.

At least three dead at Le Campement according to AFP. Huge plumes of smoke seen rising above the luxury holiday complex.

If it isn't popular with foreign tourists then please explain why it says everywhere that it is commonly frequented by westerners?

Looks like the fault lies with UK/US foreign policy.

Hmm. so many nice safe places to go on holidays in the world, with cheaper flight prices for westerners too, why go to mali

I'd like to go to Mali. Loads of really cool stuff to see. However I do know that the country is only just under the control of the government and there have been trouble from ISIS and the Tauregs. I can't imagine anyone going there for a beach holiday.
