I really love piercings and all of the ones i have so far but i really want to get my belly button pierced. My mum won't let me though. She says that if i were to ever need surgery that doctors wouldnt touch me because of having a piercing.. but you can take out the piercing if i needed surgery? Im 16 at the moment by the way. I just dont know how to convince her to allow it.

Wait until you're 18. Pierce away then if you still want to.

If you can't wait 2 years to get it then you probably don't really want it all that much.

Got mine done at 16. Took it out a year later - left with a dirty looking scar that is still really noticeable 14 years later.

They're are plenty of clip on rings you can get for belly button that look just as good as the real thing so maybe give those a go until you're 18.

I had one done back in the day (and I'm a guy!), for the crack. I liked it in fairness, though make sure you go somewhere decent, clean, and keep it clean as well.

I took mine out eventually - in fact, it was pretty easy to take in and out. Didn't really leave a mark.

I very much doubt a doctor would refuse to treat you because you have a piercing.

I got mine done about 15years ago in a reputable place in Dublin city centre. It grew out similar to some eyebrow piercings you (used) to see. I ended up getting bars custom made. My last one was 5mm long. I took it out 10years+ ago. It left a small scar and the piercing itself is still open.

BUT on my first baby my stretch marks all fissure out from the belly button scar. I can't say for definite that I wouldn't have gotten stretch marks anyway but personally I believe that the weakness in the skin left by the piercing didn't help.

It hasn't put me off piercings as I have several and will get one or two more but do consider all angles.

My mam wouldnt allow me to get my belly button pierced so I went to the cheapest piercer in town, forged her signature and got it done anyway. He pierced it way off centre and my belly button got so infected I had to go to the doctor, the doctor wouldn't treat me without my parents being informed so called my mam, who hit the roof. A year later the piercers business got shut down for being unhygienic. 15 years later ive still got an off centre hole over my belly button.

If you want to get it done make sure you go somewhere that's very reputable and offers good after care.
Will waiting 2 years really make such a big difference? Why don't you get it done for your 18th birthday? it could be a bday present to yourself.

Having piercings does not interfere with surgery, like any jewelry theyre very easy to pop in and out.

If you go in for surgery for anything you have to remove all jewelry - but once its healed, its easy to take in & out :) Just make sure you get it done somewhere reputable & be gentle with it when its healing - no high waisted or tight jeans cause if there is too much pressure on it, it can migrate & reject & the scar is quite noticeable :)

I've been pregnant and had a belly button ring/bar in! It's grand, won't scar unless someone butchers it. Which is unlikely! Maybe you are a little young yet. I was 17 when I got mine done and my mum went crazy...when she eventually spied it!! Of course it won't stop doctors from treating you and once healed, you can take it in and out with ease. If you can, hold on til you are 18. Sixteen is young to consider such a thing.

I had the same problem and I got it done for my 18th birthday. Took it out when I was 26 (4 years ago ) for a surgery and just never put it back in. I still have the little hole but it doesn't bother me in the slightest. I got it done by a reputable place and i never had any problems with it..
