Hedgehogs in cattle grid

After my dog got very interested in the cattle grid coming into my house, it turns out there is two hedgehogs down there. They are huddled up together in the corner and I'd be thinking they are only there a day or so since the dog sniffed them out.

Anyone know what they're doing there? If they fell down by accident or are nesting there and if they would be able to climb back out (around 2ft deep)? Just want to know if I should leave them alone or help them to get out.

Most likely fell in. But a board down so that they can climb out , they won't be able to climb the vertical side, and some water.

Leave in a block or 2 to give access back out.

They may well get out without but no harm.

You need to get them out or give them a way of getting out. A ramp will do it. They will more than likely die there otherwise. Happened in my parents house too, the grid filled with water fro rain and they drowned. Had to put in a ramp to prevent more dying.
See info here: Try to do this urgently so they can get out.

They fell in and, most likely cannot get out. Put a board in as a ramp they can walk up.

    Thanks for the replys,

Put a board in to act as a ramp and a pan of water. Will check back later hopefully that'll do the trick.

Last night enjoying some fresh water after a long, hot day or 2 stuck in the ground.

The other guy made his way into the trees. Fascinating little creatures.
