Hi, just a quick question. Have few cars on my eye, Passat 2006-2007. As I'm looking for a certain spec it's not easy to find a decent one, not on another side of the globe.
The few which interest me have 4-6 previous owners, worth considering or not even bother?

Have a look at them, but you'd want a serious discount. Why would a ten year old car have changed hands every 18 - 30 months? Good chance they've got some troublesome faults or they're expensive to run.

I was looking at the 1.9TDI model, would be hard to call it expensive to run.
The pricing tag is something which I can't understand, something like this for example Passat .
8!! previous owners and 3,000€? Even when I find something interesting after one owner the car looks like it was used for on a farm for pig transport.

Any diesel of that age will be most likely well used.

Having 10 or 12 owners wouldn't put me off as could be down to tax arrears and wiping them clear.

    Some people change often.

If you are set on an old car as such just get it checked over rightly so and should be fine if all clear.

You need to find out how long these owners actually owned the car for as these days people transfer ownership regularly to family members, etc to avoid paying motor tax arrears.

To be honest didn't think about that. Motorcheck is great but I would go bankrupt if I had every car which I want to see.
But I will have that in mind, so probably a change of ownership after short time could mean an attempt of avoiding the tax or not necessarily?

Being honest if I was buying one I'd narrow my list down to about 5 and then arrange to go view/drive them. That should remove the dogged ones. Then start focusing on the remaining candidates. I wouldn't be just doing history reports on potential cars I see on donedeal. Too much mutton dressed up as lamb in just an advertisement.

Finding out how long the current owner had it would give a more accurate picture of the quality of the car, if they have it a month I would run a mile, if they had it over a year and the car had 6 previous owners it would be fine. Check on motortax.ie for vehicle transaction details to see if there was a recent change of ownership.

I usually check the motortax page as soon as I find something interesting. Its a shame that all the info is behind pay wall.
Now I know that many owners can be sign off avoiding motortax. Wish me luck
