For years here we've used Silawrap. I was wondering are there any good alternatives out there? In either price or quality. What's people's experience?

Silawrap is the most consistant plastic wrap around. However it tends to be expensive. A lot depends on product you are wrapping. It is made from virgin resin not recycled plastic resin and is 5 ply. Some cheaper plastics are 3 ply and made from recycled plastic resin.

If silage is below 30 DM Silawrap will preserve it perfectly @ 3 layers . The tricky bit is going above this . If borderline some of the other wraps are grant but if silage is hitting 50DM again silawrap comes into play. at 4-5 layers.

Some of the other products vary from year to year between 3-5 ply and between virgin and recycled resin.

How would anyone know which wrap is 3 ply or 5 ply or made from recycled plastic resin???
How many bales off a roll for 3 layers ,because i always taught the standard wrap for a bale was 4 layers i.e 30 bales /roll of plastic
6 layers for haylage i.e. 20 bales per role

I didn't think it's possible to put 3 layers on a bale. Does it not have to be a multiple of 2 with a 50% overlap each time meaning that as soon as the bale is covered 1 more revolution will mean the entire bale has 2 layers.

Sorry my mistake 4 layers. On the ply it seems it says it on the box. And yes it is hard to know who is using recycled plastic resin but it seems that it is one of the issue's that makes a difference

I went with SiloMaster in the end. Think its made by Goldcorp. 3 ply stuff. 80e a roll delivered. Was quoted 86e for Silawrap at the 2 of the main dealers that appear if you use their app but another local merchant had Silawrap for 78e so I'd recommend shopping around. I said id go for a change anyway. Didn't notice much difference in the end. Holed a few towards the end but i think that was complacency on my part as opposed to anything being wrong with the wrap! 12 hrs on the tractor I was getting excited when the end was in sight! Nice pint of Bulmers on ice now will sort me out.
