tax credit for a married person

Looking at my tax credit certificate for 2016, it states that my Personal Tax Credit is €1,650 while my PAYE Tax Credit it also €1,650. My spouse has the same Tax Credits.

Looking into revenue online, it states that we share this figure (or one similar to it). But being a married person, should my Tax Credit not be around €3,300 (per person).

Any advice would be most welcome. Thanks.

No, as a married couple your total personal credit is 3300. You can divide it however suits between spouses, but if you're both working (and earning over 15k per year) that means 1650 each. Every individual PAYE employee gets a PAYE credit of 1650, regardless of marital status or otherwise so that one can't be divided.
