    Hey All,
I am looking at a getting a new (to me) tractor, after a lot of looking around and have it narrowed to a few different models all in and about the same price of 25K with front loader, 40k, 4 wheel drive and hook back arms.

    What I am looking at are;

    1) 1997 massey 4245 with 3400hrs, had no loader originally but will have
    2nd hand one installed
    2) 2001 New Holland TL 100 WITH 4600 Hrs, with loader from new
    3) 1998 case CS 94 WITH 4400 HRS,had no loader originally but will have
    2nd
    hand one installed
    4) 1997 John Deere 6210 with 7000hrs,with loader from new
    or slightly dearer by 4k
    5) 2005 New Holland TL 90A with 4000hrs,with loader from new

All the above are from dealers no private sale, all in good condition with 6 month warranties . it will not be asked to do a anything out of the ordinary feeding 180 bales a year, topping, fert bog, etc. The tractor i have is 30 years old and pushing on so looking to upgrade for a bit of comfort and have a tractor that will do me for another 15 or so years. Let me hear what you think all comments appreciated.

From them choices, has to be the 2005 tl90a if it's in the 25k bracket. I'd opt for power shuttle handling 180 bales.

    They are a nifty outfit...

The tl90a is 4k dearer than the first four coming in at 29k. But seeing as it is 8 years newer would it better value ?

If the hours are genuine the first 3 have done very little more work and the massey actually less.
Also the massey and case have done no loader work unless there had been a loader which was taken off. The others definitely have done loader work having loaders from new.
You might be getting a tractor 8 years newer for an extra 4k but it might have a similar level of wear and tear. Really it depends on how well looked after they were.

If you are doing a lot of loader work then a shuttle is very handy, and preferably a wet shuttle rather than a dry or manual shuttle.

It is likely that the MF has a dry shuttle or perhaps the 18x6 gearbox with no shuttle at all. The 18x6 is not the best with a loader around the yard as I feel that the gearing ratio's are not good. High reverse is waaay too fast, where as medium reverse is a bit slow leading to lots of revving. A snoopy nose improves visibility also. We have an 18x6 4255 with loader here. Apparently dry clutches are soft enough on the 42 series massey, although no experience of that here yet.

I dont think shuttles were available on the case CS. Dont know anything about the JD i'm afraid

Do any of the TL's have shuttles?

The power shuttle puts it in a different league entirely. Much better value.

I'd be going for the tl90a as well if all is right. I wouldn't trust the hours too much on them older tractors, look at what's in front of you.

Check the front end more so than the back on any tractor with a loader, the tl90a is far ahead of the rest imo. Grease nipples seem to be neglected by a lot of farmers.

in nov 2014 I bought a march 2006 McCormick cx105 with mx loader and 3200hours for €22,000 off a main dealer. It was 9 year old.

its fairly ok spec with electronic shuttle and id have similar usage, manages 12t dump trailer, 1800G slurry tank, pull 12/15 bales of silage etc

Thanks for all the replies lads much appropriated, I am staring to lean towards the tl 90a i think... decisions, decisions.......
jimmy G M-Both TLs have shuttles,
lakill Farm would you mind pm me the location of where you bought, from talking to dealers they are all saying the prices of these tractors 80-100 hp are gone up over 3k and more in price from 3 years ago, for older tractors with higher hours due to demand in sales and fewer to found in England.

bought a 04 MF 4355 there lately snoopy bonnet loader and 4K hours for 27K
its got the 24x24 gerabox and power shuttle, seems OK so far. like others I'd be leaning at the TL90a if I were picking.

wanted to buy a NH but couldn't find a reasonably priced one so chanced the Massey.

Well wear, that's a late model. Has it the black cab frame?

    cheers Clover,
    its this one!

still figuring out the most efficient way to drive it,
not a huge fan of the gear lever but I'll get used to it

tbh I should have bought a T5050 last year but wasn't prepared to go the extra few K.

Power shuttle is a must in a loader tractor. The CS is a great tractor, but the shuttle is on the right hand side which would be a monumental pain in the hole when doing any loader work.
I'd be going for either New Holland, with mu budget deciding which one I'd get.
