    Well, How do you cull late calving Sucklers?

    I have a couple of suckler cows I wouldn't mind getting rid of. One heifer cow had a caesarean, the other 2 are late calving. What is the best way to get rid of them;

    - sell cow with calf now in mart?
    - sell calf now, sell cow later well dried off?
    - wait till end of year, till calf is reared and sell cow off not in calf?

    In the past I've carried the cow over the winter not in calf and sold her around June fattened on grass.

    Option number 3 is what we do

    Usually option 3 here too, especially if the cow had a nice heifer calf that i was thinking about keeping for a replacement..
    I don't think i could stomach looking at a cow all winter knowing she wasn't going to have a calf in the spring.

    Depends on the cow. Young cow, calving late sell her to someone autumn calving with calf in foot. Can be worth another bit if she's gone in calf and scanned.

    If a spring calving cow lost a calf, I try and finish her off grass that summer.

    Your one with the C section is not a cow that too many will want. Has she a calf at foot patsy?

    If the seat's wet, sit on yer hat, a cool head is better than a wet ar5e.

    We have two cows for culling that lost calves in start of May. They have been let into grass now last couple wks hopefully ready for sale at end of summer. Option 3 otherwise if calf was alive.

    Meal the two on grass and hang her up at the end of the year. The cow drives on and she will put a fair bit more into the calf. i know its probably the most profitable to be mealing cows but its worked for me.
