When Ryanair fly to Amsterdam I assume they mean Schiphol airport? What Terminal do they land at in Schiphol and is the airport train station nearby?

Yes, Schipol. There is only 1 terminal but it is area 3 they use for departures

Schipol has its own, large, train station that is located under the airport (lots of platforms, take time to make sure you are on the right one). A fantastic airport and ryanair flying there is great for competition.

Thanks. Just trying to get an idea of how far I have to walk from the train station beneath, to Area 3 where Ryanair departs. Should I bring a picnic?

No picnic needed...from memory it didn't seem that far of a walk.

Theres a link to a PDF Map of the Arrivals and Departures area below.

Hope you have an enjoyable trip.

Also depending on what what part of Amsterdam you are going to, it might prove to be more handy to take the airport express bus as the train doesn't cover a lot of the city.

All UK/IE flights seem to go from the same area in AMS, D gates

Its a bit of walk as its the end of the pier, that said its the same walk if you fly with EI, KL or FR

Bus option can be helpful as arriving by train to Centraal you will have to get a bus/tram to complete journey

AMS security are very picky, so be warned

They really are, don't be afraid to stand your ground and call them out on any dodgy decision they come up with.

I have flown back through AMS three times in the last twelve months or so and found security to be efficient and very pleasant each time. Wouldn't have said any of them were picky, just thorough.

Full body scanners in use. Expect to deal with three or four people along the way

One where you put everything in a tray. One either side of the scanner where you may be frisked as well and potentially one where you retrieve your belongings

    No hassle with them whatsoever

@OP - Gates are quite a walk. Probably similar to Dublin. There's a large central shopping hub but there are shops & food outlets most of the way down to the gates too

I fly through Schiphol at least 2 times/week.

Aer Lingus goes from D gates in 1-2, Ryanair goes from H gates in 3. Different sides of the airport. Ryanair probably have the greatest walking distance, but there's not much in the difference. They don't have to use an airbridge there, which obviously helps save money

Schiphol security are very efficient and generally friendly. No different to any other security in that sense

Can you opt to be frisked rather can be exposed to radiation?

You are constantly exposed to radiation, everything emits it, so no.

Genuinely, I don't know. I've never seen anyone request it. But they do have an old fashioned gate between each pair of body scanners, so I'm sure they could accommodate if asked
