A friend of mine has the same problem and got an led light to plug into his laptop which essentially acts as backlighting. I found one for €1.83 but with a coupon I got it for €0.91. In fact i bought a few of them a while back from Ali. Really bright light .

Two of them on left and right USB, and you'd be sorted for nightlight
