    hey all
    can anyone explain what living in america illegally is these days , is it as simple as getting a one way flight , landing down and getting social security number bank account job etc ,

    anyone here have any stories to tell of this

    I think things are much tougher now Trump is actively against illegal immigrants.

    Firstly you'll need a ticket out of the USA within 90 days in order to get in on the visa waiver program, which is how most Irish enter the US.

    You will not be able to get a social security number or a bank account.

    You may be able to find a job, construction, bar, restaurant, nanny etc, but you will be paid in cash.

    In most states you will not be able to get a driver's license.

    Are people really trying to suggest all the hundreds of thousands of undocumented workers in the US are being paid in dollar bills?

    Some banks may well demand it, but there's no law stipulating you have to have a SSN to open an account.

    There's always ways and means, of course, but what you're saying is definitely true and it's probably only going to get harder. Even buying a pre-paid cash card for a few measly quid can be a nightmare these days once they start requiring verification.
