    Hi All,
This morning I got "Reduced Engine Performance" message when driving to work. Any idea what would cause this. The car is 1.6 diesel and is booked for service next week. Should I bring forward the service?
    Thanks in advance

Does the car go into limp mode (for instance it won't rev past 3000 rpm)?

And yes, ring the garage today and tell them about this new issue.
They may suggest you bring car in immediately for them to scan error codes.

That message is Volvo speak for limp home mode where the car will not rev about 2000 rpm to reduce the risk of the engine being damaged. Usually happens when certain fault codes are flagged by the car's ECU. Could be a number of things especially with that PSA 1.6 diesel engine. Usual suspects would be - DPF sensor, DPF is blocked or EGR value is knackered, etc. The specific fault code(s) will give an indication.

If it's anything like the S40, I used to get these warning messages from time to time and it was down to dodgy software and just one of a number of gremlins in the system (like the radio not turning on and having to start ignition again). If it goes away after turning the engine off and on, I'd be inclined to say software issue rather than mechanical. But if it stays on...
