    and 2006 v 2015 is here
    http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=99952880

    Trends:
    1. Student numbers fell in 2016 v 2015 for CIMA (-5.7%) and CAI (-5.0%) but were up for CPA (+3.8%) and ACCA (+2.2%)
    2. Student numbers in 2016 remain lower than their Peak levels for all 4 of the main bodies
    3. Member numbers are well up since 2006 for all bodies.

I didn't realise so many accountants let their memberships lapse post qualification. Is there a reason for this?

770 members let it lapse or 2.2%.

    Various reasons I guess:

-Many are no longer working in practise and in different roles, so must pay the fees fully themselves for no perceived benefit

-If your office does pay it, you might still pay BIK.

-Fees went up and fed up

-You don't actually need to be part of an accountancy body to call yourself an accountant. This is not a protected title. Only an Auditor must have a professional body if signing off on audited accounts.

    Trends:
    1. Student numbers fell in 2017 v 2016 for CIMA (-7.4%) and ACCA (-1.9%) but were up for CAI (+6.2%) and CPA (+3.1%)
    2. Member numbers are well up since 2006 for all bodies.
    3. Lapsed student registrations appear to have not been reported by ACCA (0 figure declared) and potentially under reported again by CAI (just 37 or 0.7%) vs an average of 20% for other bodies

I'd imagine CAI membershio figures will continue to rise given the pass rate is circa 90% the last couple of years

Pass rate in FAE right? CAP 2 were the exams with the high fail rate when I was doing them. One year was 50% + iirc

Yes FAE, but I think CAP 2s aren't far off 70% either. There seems to be a push to churn out more accountants.

Yes and the result of this is a capping out at mid level on salary for the bulk. Ave 60k for newly qual and 73k for 6years pqe according to Barden report on thurs. Trouble coming down the track for them. The career isn’t the earner it once was. V short sighted.
