Spanish Airspace & Flight Plans

    Being meaning to ask this for a while. I've noticed that many of the late flights from Murcia or Alicante to Ireland follow a route up the coast toward Barcelona before taking a left turn and heading direct.

    Probably seems like no big deal but wondering why the routing would be like this? Seems to add about 10 mins on to flight time

    Or maybe I'm over analysing! :o

    Shortest possible distance in Spanish domestic airspace.
    Get onto the TANGO routes which had a fixed charge.
    Then Ireland domestic which has the same user charges as Albania
