hear there have been raids today , anyone see anything without naming places ?
We all know of lots of dodgy places that look like money laundering outfits , but I don't recall seeing many places being closed down around the Naas Road - they obviously have things in order when raided.

A bank account containing around €200,000 has been frozen after a series of CAB raids in Dublin today.
Around €30,000 in cash has also been seized, along with a number of high-end watches.
These raids - which have been ongoing for the past few hours - have been conducted at car dealerships and privates homes in the south and west of Dublin.

My mate was telling me last night that the cops have been using his office building to spy on a car dealer nearby.
Be interesting to see if it was one of them.

Saw the cops and CAB outside one today just at the Ballyfermot turn on the Nangor Road.....seem to be going through everything

Was the fact that the cops have been using his office building not supposed to be secret?

It’s much easier for criminal organisations to launder their profits using cars, watches, high end goods then to use cash or online transactions. Cash and online transactions can be tracked a lot more easily plus most banks now have sophisticated anti-money laundering tools these days.

Thought cash was king and untraceable
So they are selling cars for cash?

They can make very large "profits" selling cars. Nice little bit of laundry done between buying and selling.

There is a Dublin criminal couple based in UK midlands involved in motor trade , theres a good chance that they are supplying cars and cars are being sold on their behalf. That would mean cars are not owned by irish dealers and Cab cant take them if they belong to a company outside country ? just an theory .

You normally know these places as the staff are skangers who wouldn't get sales job anywhere else and theres lots of Uk and fancy cars around.

Cash is king and untraceable until you spend it.
Revenue will be asking quite quickly how all of a sudden you afforded the multi-million Euro property.
It's why some of them still live in ex corpos done up to the nines

They do that as well. It's hard work to legitimise dirty money.

They buy a load of cars for £5,000 on average each, but forget to mention that a further £3-5,000 was paid in cash.

They sell the cars for €15,000 each. Nice profit.

Profit is declared and money is cleaned.

Yes I remember on one of the raids CAB found a betting slip for ?38k placed on Liverpool.
Gardai also seized a betting slip for a ?38,000 bet on a Liverpool football match from one of the properties that was raided in the Crumlin area.

It was a favourite method for John Gilligan. He'd put it all on the favourites. Naturally he'd loose some, but because gambling wins were virtually tax free, he found a cheaper way of legitimizing it versus paying the taxman
