Has IE beefed up their security arrangements lately. I've seen security the last few times I've used the Dart its nearly as common now as it is on the Luas. This OCS they're using now seem to be doing a lot more patrols than Brinks or STT before them.

Big push to oust the organised Roma 'tissue' begging operation

Also June traditionally is when trouble starts with large numbers of youths heading to the beach

Probably this. People were getting intimidated by them harrasing people so theyre most likely putting more teams out to harrass THEM now. Keep it up long enough and they either 1)give up as its more troule than theyre worth or 2) deport their asses as they need to be working here to stay here under freedom of movement. No job = no reason to be here.

What'll probably happen is they'll get rid of them then the security presence will decline and the issue will just come and it's back to square one with the issue.

Plenty of them are just around Connolly/Heuston station most of the time. I will say it has changed a lot recently.

If anything there are less in Heuston now as well.

Only one security working in Connolly in the day time and two or three in hueston. You might see some waiting for the train they are working on but they are not there for long.

While on the topic, saw a post by a certain Dublin Radio Station stating Guards will be put on trains backing up RPU staff.

    Gardai or private security?

    Gardai.

Might be first step towards transport police.

It's usually organised when they have a blitz planned.

Gardaí have been doing this at random since 2016 with IE, similar to the "Operation Clean Tram" initiative between Transdev/Gardaí/DSP.

Yeah taught that but wonder if it might be a little more common.

Garda and its always just a single garda is sometimes present at large scale ticket checks at main stations

Real purpose is to ensure anyone who gets caught behaves and can be arrested, cautioned etc. The presence has interesting motivation on people to cooperate

Yes and it shows why we should form a Transport Police.

There are some sections of our society which simply don't take security/ticket checkers seriously. Gardai on the other hand they mostly don't mess with as they know that if they mess around they will end up back in the station cooling their feet in a cell or worse....

Get rid of the security/ticket checking staff and use the money saved from that to finance a dedicated Transport Police service with the same powers as the Gardai, but dedicated to public transport. Have them patrol Luas, Dart, etc. and also check tickets.

All similar to how the British Transport Police work.

Can you imagine if they had their own dedicated police station in either Hueston or Connolly. With holding cells in it and with one or two police vans constantly going up and down the network, picking up people caught causing trouble or evading tickets.

You could also have all the CCTV cameras from platforms/stations and trams/trains tied into it and an emergency help text number if you spot trouble on a tram/train.

If they spot trouble on a tram, then quickly dispatch the van to jump ahead and onto the tram to pick up the trouble makers.

I think it would quickly change the attitude of these folks. Yes they don't really care about yet another charge being added to their rap sheet, but I do think they care about wasting a day in a cell rather then going about their "business".
