    Hi,

Wondering if anyone can help. I unlocked my porch door Saturday morning and went to lock it again and the key wouldnt turn fully to allow it to come out of the barrel. The door will lock, no problems but I cant get the key out as it wont do a full rotate, so now I cant lock it. Hope Ive attached the pictures properly. Pix open, is when its straight so I can take the key out. Pix 2 is when I go to lock it but it wont go straight, so cant take the key out.

    Any help? cheers

I have seen this when a door sags towards the front.
The bolt cannot sit fully into the receiver.
To fix you could identify which bolt is not sitting properly. You can then file the receiver slot to allow it fit.
Alternatively you could try tightening the hinges to see if you can lift the door.

Good squirt of WD40 into the keyhole.

Can you lock the cylinder and get the key out when the door is open (as in a-jar). If yes, well then it is something external to the door that may have happened as a result of sagging etc i.e. what cerco suggested above.
If you still cant get it into the locked position while the door is swinginging open; it is something internal to the door's mechanism, and a good squirt of wd40 wouldn't be a bad place to start. :)

thanks for the ideas. Ive tightened the hinges ( alen key job), ive put wd40 in every place I can see, that's moveable and no, you cant lock the door and remove the key, even if the door is open. Its like there is no problem with the two doors pairing up, it seems more to do with the barrel. Maybe ill just take it out and bring to a locksmith. cheers for the replies

Id say a lock smith would just replace the barrell not fix it.
Look up "euro cylinder" or "euro lock" online.
But first. You can check if it is actually the barrell yourself.
They are handy enough to get out.
Go to the edge of the door in line with cylinder (90 degrees to the cylinder) there is a screw which holds the lock in place. Philips head about 6 or 7 mm wide.
remove it. the barrell should start to slide out.
You will need to adjust the key to get it all the way out.
If you can get it out you will see the little black arm that spins to lock the mechanism inside the door.
See can you turn the key to both positions and take it out...
If you can't (get the key out) - replacing the barrell should do the trick (or try with the barrel off your other door)
If you can (get the key out) - Id say you need to get someone in to look at the door locking mechanism (I wouldnt be familiar with them at all)

to remove the barrel, I would need to remove a length of steel that covers the whole edge of the door, where the lock and "double " locks come out of, which are secured by Philips and star head screws so nothing I would have in my tool box. maybe its time for the pro's to come in!! :-) thanks again.
