    Hi Guys,

Would appreciate some feedback please on this. My husband and I got married in October 2015. We have yet to inform the tax office to be honest I didn't think it would make much difference so didn't bother. My husband's work is seasonal running from Feb / Mar through to Nov, he claims his stamps when he is off last year he about earned 38,000 and i earned 27,600 gross. I tried at the start of this year to claim tax back for myself but got nothing. If we were to be asessed as a married couple anyone know if we would be entitled to tax back? Appreciate any information?

    Thanks

    Lex

I would speak with Revenue as soon as possible. I would seek to be jointly assessed. They would see if allocating your credits and cut off points would provide you with a return. You won't be penalised for asking. Are you set up on PAYE Anytime? If not, I'd set up as soon as possible.

And do speak to Revenue regarding any tax refunds due for the last 4 years, which are 2013, 2014, 2015 and 2016.

Your own tax will probably not improve but your husband will have his first 33,800 taxed at 20% and 40% thereafter, as you are under the threshold, you can transfer some of your unused threshold to your husband reducing all his earnings to the 20% tax rate.
